Many older communities have combined sewers for wastewater and stormwater. During storm events, the amount of flow can triple and the amount of solids can exceed anything these systems were intended to handle. The solids clog bar racks and create a dam that causes the water level to rise at various points in the collection system. The result is a combined sewer overflow.
Several municipalities have solved this problem by installing an Enviro-Care Flo-Minutor Solids Reduction Comminutor. Since lift station pumps can be particularly vulnerable to heavy solids loading, Flo-Minutors have been installed to protect those pumps. Solids are cut into small particles by the Flo-Minutor and easily handled by the solids handling pumps at the lift station.
Flow continues to move through the collection system, the pumps continue to operate at peak efficiency, the smaller solids are dealt with further downstream and combined sewer overflows are a thing of the past.
